John Chan

Self Photos / Files - John Chan 陳朗軒 - 一人照Chan was born in Hong Kong. He started learning piano at the age of six and double bass since nine. In 2012, he attended the Hong Kong Baptist University. After studying for three years, he obtained the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music. His major teachers include Mr. Eddie Zong (Former Principal of Double Bass in HK phil), Mr. Simon Hui (Former Double Bassist in HK phil) and Mr. Wilfred Ma (Freelance Double Bassist in HK Sinfonietta). Besides, he continued to study piano with Miss Cecilia Long and obtained the Fellowship (FTCL) Diploma from Trinity Guildhall in 2015.

 

Chan actively participates in various orchestras both as regular member and guest player along his music path. He is now a freelance bassist in City Chamber Orchestra  of Hong Kong. When he was studying in HKBU, he was the principal double bassist of the Hong Kong Baptist Symphony Orchestra (BUSO) and Collegium Musicum Hong Kong (CMHK). He had toured with various orchestras and performing in the Mainland China, Austria, and the United States. In 2014, he had toured with Collegium Musicum Hong Kong, performing in the renowned Carnegie Hall at New York City. Chan also cooperated with many great soloists and conductors as an orchestral player, including pianist Colleen Lee, Valentina Lisitsa, violinist Simone Lamsma, harpsichordist Bart Van Oort, renowned pipaist Zhang Hongyan etc.

 

As a soloist, He had performed in the masterclass of Luis Cabrera (Principal Double Bass of Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra), Jeff Bradetich (Faculty member of University of North Texas), Catalin Rotaru (Faculty member of Arizona State University) and under the coaching of Ibragimov Rinat (Former Principal of Double bass in London Symphony Orchestra).
